Subcommittee Advances E-Notary Legislation

A Senate subcommittee held a hearing on Monday afternoon to consider SSB 1116, which is a bill that would legalize electronic notaries here in Iowa. ABI is registered in support of the legislation, as it would streamline the process and increase the efficiency of certain transactions, such as real estate closings. Some concerns were raised with the bill including the effective date and how records would be retained, but all three members of the subcommittee signed off with recommendation of an amendment.
