Senate majority hosts press conference on wage payment

January 29, 2015

Members of the Senate Majority had a press conference Wednesday to talk about Iowa workers not receiving pay for the hours they worked. The Senate has previously passed legislation changing the burden of proof, increasing reporting requirements and adding penalties to Iowa employers. Senate File 39 - introduced this week - also addresses the issue.

Sen. Bill Dotzler referenced an op-ed written by ABI Chairman Mark Hanawalt during the press conference. Iowa’s existing wage payment collection law is very stringent and employers who do not follow the law by improperly classifying employees or making improper payroll deductions can experience penalties. We will continue to educate legislators on this issue.
