Prison Industries starts rule process again

October 1, 2015

The Iowa Prison Industries proposed rules during the summer that expanded the eligible buyers of state-made and -marketed products to private contractors. ABI advocated against the proposed language and was successful in getting the language substantially modified. During adoption of the rule an error was made and the process had to start over. The Department of Corrections will be coming before the Administrative Rules Review Committee with their proposal again. ABI will continue to express concerns about government competition with the private sector and the state run monopoly of prison industries.
