Pregnancy discrimination proposal introduced
January 22, 2015
Sen. Chris Brase (D-Muscatine) has introduced a bill related to pregnancy discrimination in the workplace. Pregnancy currently is covered under the civil rights code in Iowa. The proposal would mandate employers provide pregnancy leave to employees if they are not able to perform the duties of their job. The impetus of the bill comes from examples in communities and counties with female firefighters and corrections employees. This bill is a repeat from 2013.
