Lawsuit Climate Survey Released

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Legal Reform (ILR) unveiled the 2019 Lawsuit Climate Survey: Ranking the States. The ILR has partnered with the nationally renowned Harris Poll to highlight the states that have the best and worst legal climates in the nation. Iowa ranks in the middle overall at number 23 for the state liability system. However, it’s important to note Iowa has declined substantially since coming in at number 4 in 2013. Iowa was ranked lowest in terms of juries fairness at 26. The majority of rankings were between 17 and 25, which put Iowa at 23. One interesting takeaway from the study is, “Moreover, a state’s litigation environment continues to be important to senior litigators, with most respondents (89%) reporting that it is likely to impact important business decisions at their companies, such as where to locate or do business.” Read the full report.
