Interim legislative study committees announced
June 15, 2017
Legislative study committees that meet between legislative sessions have been announced for 2017. The study committees are formed to bring House and Senate members from both parties together to try and address a particular policy concern through legislative action for next year. Two committees of interest to ABI members are the Industrial Hemp Program Study Committee and the Prescription Pain Medications Study Committee. Multiple bills were brought forward during the 2017 session to deal with these issues, but nothing was signed into law. With opioid addiction plaguing the country and industrial hemp production becoming more socially acceptable, we expect both of these committees to discuss moving forward on potential legislation for 2018.
