Federal Spotlight: GMO labeling passes Ag Committee

The U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee on Tuesday passed a law pre-empting the states from enacting their own labeling laws as it relates to Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO). The bill still has some challenges before it gets to the full Senate floor. Some would like to see the federal law mandated, while other senators would prefer to allow companies to voluntarily decide whether to label GMO foods. ABI supports nationwide voluntary efforts and is following the work of our national partners on this issue.
