Federal Spotlight: Deloitte Insights - Manufacturing Institute Survey Highlights
March 31, 2022
A new report released by the Manufacturing Institute (MI) and Deloitte show the perceptions of manufacturing jobs have improved over the last several years. The Manufacturing Institute 2022 Manufacturing Perception Study shows the COVID-19 pandemic response bolstered how people perceived manufacturing. Seventy-three (73) percent of respondents reported that manufacturing was critical to the COVID-19 pandemic response because it contributed to the production of personal protective equipment, ventilators, and other essential equipment and goods. Sixty-nine (69) percent reported that U.S. manufacturers helped sustain many jobs during the pandemic.
Further, there was an increase in the number of respondents who said they were likely to encourage their child and other youth to pursue a career in manufacturing. That is the goal of ABI’s Elevate Advanced Manufacturing program. Elevate Iowa also has a campaign called “Not a Dirty Job” to help change the perceptions of manufacturing careers.
