Federal Spotlight: ABI Signs Onto Letter Opposing Calif. Data Privacy Law

February 7, 2019

ABI recently joined other business associations in supporting an effort being led by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce to encourage other states to not adopt a version of an invasive data privacy law that was recently passed in California. The Golden State approved the California Consumer Privacy Act last year, which was onerous, far-reaching and ushered through the legislative process despite the concerns the business community had with the bill. If you are interested in learning more about this, please contact Brad. ABI learned late Wednesday there is some interest in the Iowa Senate by a legislator to introduce legislation addressing security breaches. The legislation is intended to mirror Ohio’s law, but we have not yet seen a draft. Stay tuned for more information on this issue as it becomes available.
