Federal Spotlight: ABI Joins Comments on NLRB Joint Employer Rule

January 17, 2019

Last week ABI signed onto comments regarding the proposed Joint Employer Rule. The comments include ensuring an employer has actual control over the employee and not just a contractual relationship to be a joint employer. The rule would provide clarity and consistency for franchisors, franchisees and other businesses who may fall under this rule. In 2015, the Obama administration expanded the long-held definition of the joint employer standard, which greatly increased the liability of companies when labor disputes occur. The Trump administration has been working on rolling the standard back to a more a traditional definition of the rule.
