Expansion of medical marijuana defeated in House
April 28, 2016
The Iowa House considered an amendment to a controlled substances bill that would have expanded the accessibility of cannabis oil that contains a low percentage of THC to those with certain medical conditions. However, it ultimately failed because it would have required individuals to travel to other states to obtain the oil, something House Democrats opposed.
The amendment included employer immunity if a company had developed and instituted a drug testing policy. Several other states have legalized cannabidiol for medicinal use and it is expected this legislation will be brought up in the next legislative session.
