Senate to consider water quality proposal

April 14, 2016

A Senate subcommittee attended by more than thirty members of the public met Thursday to consider Senate File 504, which will increase the state sales tax by ⅜ of a cent and use a portion of the funding for water quality initiatives. The money is constitutionally protected and can be used for a variety of environmental and recreational programs including funding to non-profits, increase funding for trails, water improvement, and many other programs. It is unclear whether the full Iowa Senate will take up the legislation before the end of session.
