Reminder: School Board Elections Tuesday, September 12
September 7, 2017
When you think about voting, you typically think about a Tuesday in November of an even year. However, even when state and federal elections are not taking place in Iowa, there are several other elections in which Iowans have the opportunity to cast a ballot for individuals to represent them. On Tuesday, September 12, all Iowans will have the opportunity to go to the polls between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm to vote for who they want to represent them on the local school boards. Remember, just because you live in one community, you may have a different school district.
Unlike the presidential election, it is sometimes difficult to find information about who wants to represent you at the school board level. The best way to find information about candidates is your local paper and school board candidate forums. Turnout in school elections is typically low, so be sure to vote. School board and local elections have the greatest impact on the amount of property taxes you pay as an individual and in your business.
