Polk County Local Option Sales Tax Election Next Week

August 1, 2019

Residents of five Polk County cities will cast ballots on a new local option sales tax next Tuesday, August 6. Those who live in Johnston, Bondurant, Grimes and the Polk County sides of Urbandale and Clive will head to the polls in five days to decide whether to enact a one-cent local option sales tax. If the tax is approved, depending on the community, the revenue will go toward offsetting property tax funded budget items, funding city projects and improving public safety. Residents in several other Polk County cities approved a one-cent sales tax increase this past March. Find your polling place. If you live in one of the communities that will vote on Tuesday, you can find a sample ballot. Remember, since this is a local election, the polls are open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
