More Candidates Announce Congressional Aspirations

October 3, 2019

Congressional races across the country continue to heat up, and Iowa is no exception. State Sen. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Ottumwa) announced Tuesday she will seek the Republican nomination in the 2nd Congressional District. She is previously a three-time GOP nominee for this House district. She will square off against former Illinois Congressman Bobby Schilling in the primary. They’re running in an open seat, and the winner is likely to face former Democratic state senator and lieutenant governor nominee Rita Hart in the general election.

In Iowa’s 4th Congressional District, businessman Steve Reeder of Arnolds Park announced last week that he will join the already large primary field for the Republican nomination to unseat incumbent Congressman Steve King. The GOP primary in the 4th District is now at five candidates, and the winner is likely to face Democrat J.D. Scholten in the general election.
