Majority of IIPAC-Endorsed Candidates Win Their Primary Races
June 9, 2022
Iowans turned out strong on Tuesday as more than 350,000 individuals cast ballots in the 2022 primary. There were a number of surprising results up and down the ballot as parties nominated candidates for the November ballot.
ABI’s political action committee IIPAC issued Friend of Iowa Business endorsements in six races for the state legislature. Winners of those races include Rep. Skyler Wheeler from Sioux County, House Majority Matt Windschitl from Harrison County, Rep. Jane Bloomingdale from Worth County and Sen. Dave Rowley of Dickinson County. There were a number of incumbent House Republicans who lost their primary races as well with school choice and pro-life matters being a central theme in many if not all of those races.
On the federal side, Admiral Mike Franken cruised to the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate, overcoming early favorite former Congresswoman and State Representative Abby Finkenauer. He will face off against Senator Charles Grassley, who defeated his primary opponent State Senator Jim Carlin by a resounding margin of 47 points. State Senator Zach Nunn walked away with the Republican nomination in the 3rd Congressional District as he defeated his nearest opponent by 46 points. He’ll be taking on Congresswoman Cindy Axne in November. This is likely to be one of the most highly contested U.S. House races in the country this year. By the end of this month, ABI will send out the 2nd quarter IIPAC newsletter that will include a deep dive on the results of the primary and what it portends for the November election and possibly the 2023 legislative session as well. This newsletter is exclusively for IIPAC donors. If you haven’t given to ABI’s PAC this year, consider doing so today to receive this in-depth analysis!
