Iowa House Approves Legislation to Prohibit Vaccine Verification

This week, the House passed a bill that would prohibit state and local governments from issuing identification cards that indicate whether or not an individual has been vaccinated for COVID-19. HF 889 also prohibits governments and certain businesses from requiring that customers and other individuals furnish proof of having received the COVID-19 vaccine prior to entering the premises. Any violation of the bill would result in the loss of state contracts or grants. The legislation is drafted in a manner that doesn’t interfere with the employer/employee relationship. There is companion legislation in the Senate that could be passed as early as next week and sent to Governor Reynolds for her review. ABI Position: Undecided
