Governor Sets Special Election Date

June 27, 2019

Gov. Reynolds issued a proclamation regarding a special election taking place in House District 46 in Story County. The seat was formerly held by longtime Rep. Lisa Heddens (D-Ames), who resigned her position in the House after being appointed to fill a vacancy on the Story County Board of Supervisors. The special election will take place on Tuesday, August 6. Ross Wilburn, a former Iowa City mayor and 2018 Democratic gubernatorial candidate, announced that he is running for the nomination. Jamet Colton, an Ames school board member, and Amber Corrieri, an Ames city council member, are also seeking the nomination. The Democratic nominating convention will be held on Saturday, June 29 in the Ames High School Cafeteria. Whoever the Democrats nominate is likely to hold onto this seat as Democrats outnumber Republicans by over 2,000 voters in this district.
