Gov. Branstad selected as ambassador to China

President-elect Trump has selected Gov. Terry Branstad as the next U.S. ambassador to China. He accepted the position on Wednesday. Branstad has a longstanding relationship with Chinese President Xi Jingping and the position could prove very positive for Iowa and Iowa businesses, as ABI President Mike Ralston discussed in today's Des Moines Register. Branstad’s departure paves the way for Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds to fill the rest of his term and become Iowa’s first female governor. Timing and details of the transition of power from Branstad to Reynolds are still unclear.
