Gas tax increase clears legislative hurdles

Members of the House and Senate Transportation Committees passed with bipartisan support legislation proposing a 10-cent increase in the state fuel tax. Senate File 257 passed the Senate Ways and Means Committee today. House Study Bill 129 is expected to clear the House Ways and Means Committee this afternoon. The legislation is supported by many transportation, agriculture and business groups. A summary of the bill as introduced can be found here. The bill is now ready for debate in the Iowa House and Senate.
