Feedback requested on proposed local option tax

March 24, 2016

The House Ways and Means Committee assigned a bill late last week that changes the method for local option sales tax elections. House Study Bill 644 allows an election to take place without permission of the contiguous counties. The proposal also requires any new city or unincorporated area that passes a local option sales tax after July 1, 2016 to use at least 50 percent of the revenue for property tax relief. ABI staff is seeking feedback from members on this proposal. Staff contact: Nicole Crain
