Federal Spotlight: Trump To Nominate Scalia For Labor Department
July 25, 2019
President Trump announced last Thursday his intention to nominate Eugene Scalia, son of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, as the new secretary of labor. The proclamation comes as the former secretary of labor, Alexander Acosta, officially resigned from his post last week. Scalia, who previously served in President George W. Bush’s administration as a solicitor for the labor department, is currently a partner in the Washington office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, a well-known law firm. Scalia must go through the Senate confirmation process, which is likely to be contentious as Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has already indicated his opposition to Trump’s nominee.
