Every Vote Counts: IA-02 Still Too Close to Call

November 12, 2020

After a whirlwind election with record turnout across the state and country, ballots are still being counted and results are being certified. In Iowa, the 2nd Congressional District has had Republican State Sen. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and former 2018 Democratic Lt. Gov. nominee Rita Hart both in the lead. After counting errors in at least two counties, Miller-Meeks is currently leading Hart by 47 votes in a race where almost 395,000 votes were cast. You can see the current results. State law provides that Monday, November 9, 2020, was the last day properly postmarked mail-in absentee ballots could be received and counted in election totals. The Iowa Executive Council must certify the canvass of results by November 30, 2020. This race highlights the importance of encouraging as many Iowans as possible to vote and aligns with our IAVotes.com messaging of #EveryVoteCounts.
