Election Update: Iowa Democratic field for governor expands
May 11, 2017
With more than a year until the June 2018 primary, the Democratic field for the party’s nomination for governor continues to expand. This week, Des Moines businessman Fred Hubbell announced he is exploring a run for the Democratic nomination for governor. He joins at least six other candidates in a crowded Democratic field to try to unseat current Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, who will be Iowa’s first woman governor after Gov. Terry Branstad is confirmed as ambassador to China. An analysis of the gubernatorial field will be included in IIPAC’s second quarter newsletter, which will be published next month. If you have not yet received IIPAC’s first quarter newsletter, contact Nicole Crain, ncrain@iowaabi.org, to find out who you can receive these valuable publications moving forward.
