Leadership Iowa University Program to Meet Virtually August 10-13

June 30, 2020

Leadership Iowa University, the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) Foundation’s opportunities awareness program, is going virtual on August 10-13. The program connects Iowa college seniors, recent college graduates and interns with tools for personal and professional success.

During the four, half-day sessions, participants will gain insight through discussions and workshops on topics including: applying personal strengths, defining servant and community leadership, visualizing success as young professionals in Iowa, and preparing for today’s workplace. Program speakers and leaders will represent a wide variety of occupations, industries and organizations from across the state.

“Leadership Iowa University was a game-changer for me,” said Joe Sorenson with the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, alumnus of the 2011-12 program and chair of the Leadership Iowa University board. “Even though I grew up in Iowa, I did not understand the broad range of career opportunities our state had until attending LIU while in college. This program provides an excellent professional development opportunity for students, and is an incredible showcase as to what Iowa has to offer some of our most talented college students.”

Created in 2008 in response to the financial crisis to provide support between college and career, the program continues to connect our state’s next decision makers with tools for personal and professional success.

As business and industry perseveres through the uncertainty related to the coronavirus, so are the state’s young professionals and emerging leaders. Leadership Iowa University offers a statewide perspective and personalized experience for participants to discover their next steps and move toward their goals.

“We have seen what a critical role leadership plays in our state during this crucial time,” said the ABI Foundation’s Director of Programs Jessi McQuerrey. “It’s important for us to have the next generation of Iowans excited and empowered to make a difference in Iowa.”

Leadership Iowa University is accepting applications at www.LeadershipIowaUniversity.com through July 24 or until the program is filled. The cost is $75. Those interested may apply as individuals or representatives of their organizations; companies may encourage and support their interns through the program.
