Leadership Iowa Travels to Muscatine for a Manufacturing and Community Vitality Session on March 5-6

March 4, 2020

40 leaders from across the state will visit Muscatine for an intensive 2-day session focused on manufacturing and community vitality on March 5-6. Taking part in Iowa’s premier issues awareness program, Leadership Iowa, the class will tour state of the art facilities and discuss the latest challenges and opportunities with industry experts.

“Leadership Iowa’s visit to Muscatine is a great way for the class to learn firsthand how Iowa is a manufacturing state both in our history and our future,” said current class member Scott Walter, president and chief operating officer of the EFCO Corporation and board member of the National Association of Manufacturers. “Iowa manufacturers have made incredible contributions to the world.”

The class will learn about the issues our state’s manufacturers face including training Iowa’s workforce for the modern shop floor, supporting infrastructure to transport raw materials and finished goods, opening foreign markets for Iowa’s products and more.

Among the session highlights will be attending Connecting Statewide Leaders hosted by the Iowa Association of Business and Industry on Thursday, March 5 at Kent Corporation. The event will include a panel discussing the future of manufacturing followed by a networking lunch.

Leadership Iowa is designed to educate, inspire and grow a network of informed leaders interested in creating a better future for Iowans. Participants take part in eight monthly sessions – each in a different Iowa community – to gain in-depth insight into the opportunities and challenges facing our state. The program concludes in June at the ABI Taking Care of Business Conference in Cedar Rapids, where the Class of 2019-20 will graduate and join a network of over 1,200 alumni.

This session is sponsored by Kent Corporation, CIPCO, ITC Midwest, Musco Lighting, HNI Corporation, SSAB and SSAB employees who are Leadership Iowa alumni. The presenting annual program sponsor is EMC Insurance.

Nominations to reach the next 40 leaders for the Leadership Iowa Class of 2020-21 are open through May 1 at www.LeadershipIowa.com. Nominations are required to apply for the program and self-nominations are allowed.
