ABI Board Holds Great Meeting
This memorandum is meant to be a forward-looking report, but on behalf of our officers, THANK YOU to the many of you who made the September ABI board meeting so successful. As it is the first meeting of the fiscal year, it is always important that the September meeting goes well. Thanks to all of you, it did.
The board meeting was well-attended, it was substantive, and it was marked by good discussion. That is not just rhetoric. Your participation in board meetings is critical to ABI's success. So, again on behalf of ABI Chair David Zrostlik (Stellar Industries, Garner) and our officers, THANK YOU for your support.
Tomorrow Night: Legends in Manufacturing Awards Dinner
The third-ever Legends in Manufacturing Awards Dinner is turning in to a huge event. The program was created by ABI's Elevate Advanced Manufacturing program and it will be held at Prairie Meadows Events Center in Altoona tomorrow this evening. Don't miss this event!

ABI's Iowa Advanced Manufacturing Conference Wednesday
Each year, ABI hosts a conference highlighting Iowa manufacturing. This year, ABI, Agri-Industrial Plastics Company, the Center for Industrial Research and Service at Iowa State, Des Moines Area Community College, the Iowa Economic Development Authority, and Kreg Tool Company are the lead sponsors for the 2017 Iowa Advanced Manufacturing Conference.
The conference will be Wednesday in Altoona. ABI Directory Updates Due by Friday, October 6
This is the time of year that ABI's member database is being updated. Information from the database will be checked, formatted, and put in to hard copy form for inclusion in the 2018 ABI Resource Guide. The guide, in addition to including member data, includes information on the association's people, programs, and events.
If there are no changes in your personnel or company information, you need do nothing. If you have updates, simply send an email to Dorothy Knowles at dknowles@iowaabi.org. The deadline to receive updates is Friday, October 6 Thank you in advance for helping us make sure your information is accurate.
Biennial ABI DC Fly-In October 2-4
The Biennial ABI DC Fly-In will take off for Washington, DC on October 2. The will include meetings with every single member of the Iowa Congressional delegation, briefings at the White House, at the National Association of Manufacturers, and with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. And there will be other highlights. Thank you to those ABI leaders participating in the 2017 edition of the Fly-In!
NAM Reports Cite Improved Manufacturing Sector
The weekly Monday Economic Report and the monthly Global Manufacturing Economic Update, both published by the National Association of Manufacturers, cite an improved manufacturing sector. That improvement applies to the Midwest as well as the nation as a whole.
The NAM reports cite additional hiring, sales, and exports as just a few factors confirming manufacturing growth. If you would like to see these publications for yourself, please let me know and I'll get them to you.
The Private Bank is Now CIBC
The Private Bank has been a valued ABI members for years. Later today, the bank will announce that it has a new name. The Private Bank is now CIBC.
In a release, the bank announced it will still focus on its commitment to its customers and on maintaining the same strong client relationships. The new name reflects a new arrangement which will provide even more resources to help customers succeed. Congratulations to everyone at the bank, including ABI Board Member Kelly Barrick (CIBC, West Des Moines)!
Rigler Investment Company to Acquire Green Circle Investments
It was recently announced that Rigler Investment Company will acquire Green Circle Investments. This really is an acquisition of Peoples Trust and Savings Bank in Clive by State Bank of New Hampton. The combined bank will have over $700 million in assets and be one of the top 25 community banks in Iowa.
