How did you get where you are today?
My career path has been a very winding road. I began in asset and liability management, then transitioned to creating and leading a mortgage company. From there, I reshaped an energy organization and led a retail energy company. Today, I have the privilege of leading Kreg Tool Company. Two key factors have helped me navigate this winding career path. The first is my commitment to lifelong learning. I have earned my master’s degree, continuously read, and look for ways to constantly expand my knowledge. The second is my partnership with my wife, Alissa. She has provided unwavering support and has been my solid foundation as we journey through life together.
What excites you the most about the business you work in?
Our people. We have an extremely talented and dedicated group of individuals laser focused on our customers. Our team works hard to understand our customer’s needs, from seasoned woodworkers to DIYers. We strive to deliver ingenious woodworking tools to make wood projects approachable and fun, giving each customer a true sense of accomplishment.
What do you see as the next big trend in your industry?
We’re witnessing a renaissance in skilled trades. There’s a growing demand for skilled tradespeople across U.S. companies, from electricians and pipefitters to masons and builders. As the need for these services rises, so too are compensation levels. More people are beginning to realize that endlessly scrolling through social media while sipping on that third caramel latte doesn’t add meaningful value to their lives. Instead, learning a new skill, whether it’s building a bookcase or crafting a dining room table, offers both immediate satisfaction and lasting rewards. At Kreg, we say we activate customers to experience the benefit of connecting head, heart, and hands.
What does effective leadership mean to you?
It's essential that our team members understand the vision and goals of the organization, how their jobs connect to the vision and goals, and how we as leaders can best support them in executing successfully. We also want to build a culture that supports our values and purpose, providing employees with things that mean more than just surface-level perks. When our employees succeed, our customers succeed, and in the end that means Kreg succeeds.
What is your favorite thing about Iowa?

What piece of advice would you give your younger self?
Study more and be patient.
Why are you a member of ABI?
ABI is another example of how Iowans can come together to provide our communities with the opportunity to enjoy the highest possible quality of life. ABI is a collection of companies across all industries representing over 330,000 working Iowans to improve the lives of all Iowans.
Who do you look to for mentorship?
I have a friend I've known for over 15 years, who is not only an exceptional business mind but also a generous, giving person and a devoted family man. I look to understand his approach to leadership, management, and continuous learning, seeking to understand how he would approach various obstacles I encounter.
