The Voice of Business Matters: Educate and Inform

This summer, ABI members and all Iowans have been inundated with political phone calls, political television ads, campaign mailers, candidate visits and volunteer door knockers. It is election season in Iowa and employers have a key role in educating your employees about the Election. I'm not talking about telling people who to vote for or to hang up candidate signs all over the breakroom walls. However, it is important to share with employees the importance of voting and being informed. 

If you've been involved with ABI for a number of years, you know that we take seriously our role in advocating and educating legislators and the public on where business stands on issues. We educate people on why job creators and businesses are key to sustaining the economy and communities in which they do business. You also know from reading our newsletters that there is an opportunity and a need for more education. 

Did you know: According to the 2026 Edelman Trust Barometer that employers continue to be the most trusted source, with businesses in general right behind! 

That is why this fall, employers need to talk to employees about being informed. 

We all know that Iowa’s future is shaped at the Statehouse, and those individuals are selected at the ballot box. Being an informed voter is an important part of civic engagement and helping build a strong future for our state.  

Election Day is November 3, and this year’s ballot includes an important governor’s race, along with races and issues that will impact communities across Iowa. Here are a few simple ways you can engage your employees this year: 

1)Sign up to be an Employee Voter Registration Week partner. No action is required by you, but showing your support for an informed workforce is one way to support employee voter engagement. Click here to learn more. 

2) Share key dates and deadlines in your breakrooms and employee communications. With only 60 days until election day, early voting will open soon and having key dates will help employees make a plan to vote early or on election day. 

3) Share ABI's voting records and Friend of Iowa Business Designations with your employees and other business officials. Knowing where the candidates stand on the issues can help employees make an informed decision on who to support in the election. 

Whether you vote early, by mail or on November 3, being prepared can help ensure you are able to participate in the election. Iowans are known for getting to the polls and voting for candidates.
