Iowa Association of Business and Industry Releases Statement on New Tariffs
April 3, 2025
The Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) was founded by manufacturers in 1903. For more than 120 years, ABI members have been manufacturing products in Iowa that are used in our everyday lives from the food we eat to the cars we drive. We applaud the Trump Administration’s continued focus on ensuring American manufacturers have a level playing field. President Trump’s focus on deregulation and a competitive tax climate helps keep jobs in Iowa. Those policies have provided businesses certainty. As Iowa manufacturers look to continue investing in their people and local communities, we are concerned with the recent announcement on retaliatory tariffs. The tariffs on Iowa-made products and agriculture goods can reduce market access and put the jobs of over 226,000 Iowans at risk. As the Administration continues their focus on American manufacturing, we encourage agreements that remove barriers, strengthen global trade relationships and create opportunities for Iowa manufacturers to thrive. ABI looks forward to advocate with our national partners at the National Association of Manufacturers and the US Chamber of Commerce for trade policies that support the continued success of Iowa’s business community and economic growth.
