ABI Statement on the Keystone XL Pipeline

November 6, 2015

The Iowa Association of Business and Industry released the following statement about President Obama's decision on the Keystone XL Pipeline:

The Iowa Association of Business and Industry joins national business, manufacturing and union leaders in decrying President Barack Obama's rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline. The project, which according to the Institute for 21st Century Energy would have created 42,000 jobs, would have added billions of dollars to U.S. GDP over the course of the next several years. Millions of those dollars would have gone to Iowa manufacturing companies. As noted by National Association of Manufacturers President Jay Timmons and Laborers' International Union of North America General President Terry O'Sullivan, the project "...would create thousands of long-term jobs and advance North American energy security." The project deserved to move foreward and American workers and taxpayers are worse off because it did not.
